A Tesla driver with a flat tire on a Tampa Bay interstate has two paths. FDOT Road Rangers via Star FHP, which can change a tire, or Tesla’s own roadside line. Neither path includes EV charging. A driver who knows what each does well gets back on the road faster.

What Road Rangers do and do not do

FDOT Road Rangers District 7 patrols I-4, I-75, I-275, and the airport interchange. Dial *347 on your phone to reach them. Their published services include jump-starts, tire help, fuel, water, two local calls, and moving a disabled vehicle. The materials reviewed do not list EV charging.

A flat tire on the interstate is exactly the kind of job Road Rangers handle. They can change a tire or move a disabled vehicle to a safe spot. They work for FDOT and do not charge the driver. They are the right answer for a tire change on the interstate shoulder.

What Tesla’s program covers

Tesla dispatches a contractor through its own app and phone line. The contractor may be coming from another county. The contractor handles tows and basic roadside help, not necessarily a Level 2 charge.

For a flat tire, Tesla’s contractor can plug a tire or tow the car to a service center. Tesla may also bring a temporary spare. Confirm the current terms with Tesla before relying on them.

What neither path covers

Neither Road Rangers nor Tesla’s contractor brings a Level 2 source to the car. A driver who runs low on the shoulder of I-275 or the Suncoast Parkway gets a flatbed, not a charge. A flatbed to the nearest charger takes time. A mobile Level 2 charge brings the charger to the car.

Charge Pro TPA is a referral line. It matches stranded Tesla drivers with independent local operators. The operator carries a 240-volt Level 2 source with a native NACS plug. A typical charge adds 10 to 20 miles of range from 15 to 30 minutes of charging. That is charging time, not an arrival time. For a 12-volt no-start, the operator brings a lithium jump pack and clips the small battery directly.

Why Teslas do not have run-flats

Most Teslas do not come with run-flat tires. Tesla owners sometimes add run-flats aftermarket, but the factory fit is a standard tire that goes flat when punctured. A driver who runs over debris on I-275 ends up with a flat, not a limp-home. The Road Rangers or Tesla’s contractor change the tire or tow.

For the broader run-flat explanation, see our Tesla run-flat tires guide.

When to call Road Rangers

Call Road Rangers at *347 if you are on a Tampa Bay interstate shoulder with a flat tire. They work for FDOT and do not charge the driver. They can change a tire or move a disabled vehicle to a safe spot. They are the right answer for a tire change on the interstate shoulder.

When to call Tesla

Call Tesla’s roadside line if you want a tow to a Tesla-authorized service center. Tesla’s program is set up for that job. A referral line is the wrong tool for a service-center tow. A flatbed is what you need.

When to call a referral line

Call a referral line if the pack is low and the driver needs a top-up on the shoulder. Road Rangers and Tesla do not bring a Level 2 source. A flatbed to a charger is the program answer. A mobile Level 2 charge is the local-operator answer. For most low-pack situations, the local-operator answer is faster.

What to say on the call

State the model, year, and trim. Tesla has had running changes across model years. Say whether the cabin is fully dark or if the screen still shows a range number. Share the exit number or the nearest cross street. The operator uses that to bring the right gear and quote before work starts.
